Arteta commits to Arsenal until 2030 after title-winning season
Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Arsenal through 2030, saying the club's success so far is only the beginning.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Premier League champions until 2030. The Spaniard's previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season, and the agreement follows reports earlier this month that an improved contract had been reached.
Arteta, who arrived at Arsenal in December 2019, could now spend a decade in charge. His new terms include a rise from his current salary of £10m per year plus £5m in bonuses, with the deal negotiated against the backdrop of reported earnings for Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone and former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, both said to be paid over £20m per year.
During his tenure Arsenal have won the Premier League and the FA Cup, and in May they lost the Champions League final to Paris St-Germain. Arteta described the club as unique and said the journey together would continue, adding that the bond and memories already created made the next phase exciting.
Arsenal co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke said the club shares a special bond with Arteta, praised his understanding of Arsenal's values and expressed pride in what has been achieved since 2019. They added that he is committed to building on that progress.
The context is a season in which Arsenal ended a 20-year wait for the Premier League title, while the Champions League final defeat came by a penalty kick. That near miss is seen as a motivating factor, with Arteta focused on building a dynasty rather than stepping away from the team he has assembled into one of Europe's strongest. Supporters have reacted positively to the news, though their optimism reflects opinion rather than a guarantee of future trophies.
