England's Nations League Window: Kane's Milestone, Scott's Debut, Alexander-Arnold's Return

England's four Nations League games under Thomas Tuchel yielded a prolific front four, a midfield injury blow, and a full-back resurgence.

England's four Nations League matches under head coach Thomas Tuchel offered a swift recovery from the World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. The window featured a 7-0 win in Croatia and a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley, alongside games against Spain and Croatia. Tuchel used the extended break to reintegrate previously excluded players and introduce new faces.

Captain Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's record of 125 England caps in the Czech Republic win, adding to his all-time scoring record. At 33, Kane remains central to Tuchel's plans and is closing in on 100 international goals. Around him, Anthony Gordon, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham form an attacking quartet that impressed. Gordon, now at Barcelona, scored in three Nations League matches before being rested, while Saka netted twice against Croatia after an Achilles injury.

A major setback was the thigh injury to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who had excelled on debut in the Croatia rout. The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for around two months, according to his club. His absence highlighted England's midfield depth, with Declan Rice rested and Elliot Anderson, Myles Lewis-Skelly and James Garner also featuring. Tuchel described Rice as a fixed point but acknowledged growing competition.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returned after being left out of the World Cup squad. The Real Madrid right-back started against the Czech Republic in Prague and delivered a cross for Gordon's opener, then impressed at Wembley with a free-kick and dangerous deliveries. Tuchel had previously questioned his defensive focus, but Alexander-Arnold's performances now demand continued selection.

Newcastle's Lewis Hall seized his chance at left-back, starting three matches after Nico O'Reilly withdrew injured. Hall, who signed a contract until 2031, linked well with former Newcastle teammate Gordon on the left. His displays have given Tuchel a selection dilemma once O'Reilly returns.

Supporters have reacted with optimism to the attacking play, though some remain concerned about defensive solidity. The manager's willingness to reintegrate Alexander-Arnold and test new midfielders has been broadly welcomed, but England's ability to maintain this form in competitive fixtures is still debated.
