Ian Murray Departs Bottom Club Greenock Morton
Greenock Morton part company with manager Ian Murray after a winless start leaves them bottom of the Scottish Championship.
Greenock Morton have announced that manager Ian Murray has left the club with immediate effect, along with first-team coach Bill Orr. The decision comes with Morton sitting bottom of the Scottish Championship on a single point from their opening eight league fixtures.
The club stated that first-team player Michael O'Halloran and assistant manager Gary Miller will take charge on an interim basis. Morton are three points adrift of second-bottom Queen's Park and are scheduled to host Raith Rovers on Saturday.
Murray, 45, took over at Cappielow in January and won four of his 29 matches in charge. A former Hibernian, Rangers and Scotland player, he has previously managed Dumbarton, St Mirren, Airdrieonians and Raith Rovers.
In a statement, a club spokesperson confirmed the departures and thanked both Murray and Orr for their hard work, commitment and professionalism. The spokesperson also acknowledged the disappointment felt by supporters and stressed the importance of the weeks ahead.
Morton's difficult start has been compounded by financial challenges, as one of the club's sponsors has encountered difficulties, which the club says has had a knock-on effect on finances and recruitment this season.
Supporters have expressed frustration with the team's position, though the club has not commented on specific fan reactions. The interim team of O'Halloran and Miller will now prepare the side for the visit of Raith Rovers.
