Manchester United's Slow Start Under Michael Carrick: A Look at the Numbers
After the international break, BBC Sport examines Manchester United's indifferent start to the Premier League season, with just one win in five matches under Michael Carrick.
Following a three-week pause for the international break, attention has returned to Manchester United's unconvincing beginning to the Premier League campaign. Under the guidance of Michael Carrick, the team has managed only one victory in its first five fixtures, a start that has raised questions among observers.
The international break provided a natural moment for reflection, and BBC Sport has taken the opportunity to review United's early-season form. The single win from five games represents an indifferent opening, leaving the side with ground to make up as the season progresses.
Carrick, who took charge at Old Trafford, has remained composed despite the scrutiny. However, the statistic of one win in five matches inevitably places pressure on the manager and his squad to improve results quickly.
Supporters have expressed a range of reactions, with some voicing concern about the team's direction while others urge patience given the disrupted rhythm caused by the international window. These are fan opinions and do not necessarily reflect the club's internal assessment.
The article stops short of offering predictions or deep tactical analysis, instead focusing on the raw outcome: a win rate that United will need to address. Whether Carrick should be worried remains an open question, but the early table makes for uncomfortable reading.
For now, the focus shifts to the coming fixtures, where United will aim to turn their season around and climb the standings. The international break may have offered a reset, but the challenge of consistency looms large.
