Northern Ireland earn eight points in four Nations League games despite Georgia stalemate

Northern Ireland collected eight points from four Nations League matches, keeping four clean sheets, though a goalless draw with Georgia left fans frustrated.

Northern Ireland concluded a four-game Nations League window with a goalless draw against Georgia at Windsor Park on Monday, a result that left supporters frustrated despite the team earning eight points in 11 days. Isaac Price's saved penalty in the 83rd minute was the clearest chance to take all three points, while Paddy Kelly and Josh Magennis also missed opportunities and Ruairi McConville hit the bar in the build-up to the penalty.

The draw followed another goalless stalemate against Hungary in Belfast last week. Magennis told BBC Sport NI he was "bitterly disappointed" with just a point, but the overall block represented clear progress: away wins in Georgia and against Ukraine in Slovakia, plus four consecutive clean sheets making Northern Ireland the only team in the competition yet to concede.

Manager Michael O'Neill called it "one of the most enjoyable windows" of his international career, praising his players' application and desire. He kept changes to a minimum, starting only 15 different players, with enforced adjustments for Daniel Ballard's hamstring injury and Ethan Galbraith's absence for the birth of his child. Young centre-backs McConville and Tom Atcheson impressed, while Ciaron Brown started all four games.

Shea Charles, who displayed Premier League pedigree alongside Trai Hume, said there were "not many complaints" after two away wins, two home draws and no goals conceded. The team remains top of Group B2 before next month's closing fixtures at home to Ukraine and away to Hungary, with back-to-back promotions and second seeding for the Euro 2028 qualifying draw still possible.

Fans filed out of Windsor Park frustrated at the dropped points, but the mood around the squad is upbeat. Magennis said "the sky's the limit" for a group that could target multiple tournaments, while O'Neill noted the team is maturing and progressing, adding that it is good the supporters are excited and proud of the side.
