Rabbi Matondo Signs for Hibernian Until End of Season
Wales winger Rabbi Matondo joins Hibernian on a short-term deal after a successful trial, becoming Marink Reedijk's first signing as manager.
Rabbi Matondo has completed a move to Hibernian on a contract until the end of the season, with the club holding an option for an additional year. The 26-year-old Wales international had been on trial at Easter Road and impressed during a training camp in La Manga over the international break.
Matondo becomes the first signing since Marink Reedijk took over as head coach last month, succeeding David Gray. Reedijk said the winger made an immediate impression with his attitude and application, adding that Matondo offers pace, directness and a threat in wide areas.
The former Rangers player left Norwegian club Brann in August after a five-month spell. During nearly four years at Ibrox, he made 70 appearances and scored eight goals, with all but one of those strikes coming in the Scottish Premiership, including one against Hibernian. He also had a loan stint at Hannover and has played for Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.
At international level, Matondo has earned 15 caps for Wales, the most recent coming last year. His only goal for his country so far came in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan in 2025.
Hibernian supporters have reacted with cautious optimism to the signing, highlighting Matondo's speed as a valuable asset but also noting his limited recent playing time. The club hopes he can rediscover his best form and provide a boost in the wide areas for the remainder of the campaign.
